1. What qualifications should I look for in a neonatal nurse expert?
Look for an actively practicing Registered Nurse with extensive NICU experience and specialty critical care certification, such as CCRN-N. I have over 25 years of nursing experience, including 19+ years in neonatal intensive care.
2. Why is active bedside experience important?
An actively practicing bedside nurse is familiar with current NICU standards, technologies, and clinical practices, ensuring opinions reflect today's standard of care. In addition, my extensive bedside experience makes me a valuable nurse expert for cases that are several years old. 
3. What types of cases do you evaluate?

I evaluate nursing care provided in newborn nurseries through Level IV NICUs, involving infants from birth through six months of age. I have experience with most medical and surgical diagnoses of infants. In certain instances, I can review pediatric cases as well.  

4. Do you review medical records?
Yes. I perform comprehensive medical record reviews, develop a timeline of nursing care, identify potential deviations from the standard of care, and provide verbal opinions and written reports when requested.
5. Do you provide Affidavits of Merit?

Yes. When required by state law, I review the available records and provide Affidavits or Certificates of Merit supporting nursing negligence claims when appropriate.

6. Do you provide deposition and trial testimony?
Yes. I provide clear, confident testimony and explain complex neonatal concepts in language judges and juries can easily understand.
7. Why is CCRN-N certification important?
The CCRN-N credential demonstrates advanced knowledge and national certification in neonatal critical care, providing additional credibility to expert opinions.
8. Do you prepare expert reports?
Yes. I prepare detailed expert reports outlining my findings, opinions, and supporting rationale after discussing state report requirements with retaining counsel.
9. How do you explain complex NICU care to juries?
I translate complex neonatal medicine into clear, understandable language without sacrificing clinical accuracy, helping juries understand the nursing issues in the case.
10. How quickly can you review a case?
Turnaround depends on record volume and my current schedule, but I work to meet litigation deadlines whenever possible.
